Biography

Mihai Suster is Vicepresident and co-founder of the Candela Foundation. He is also a graduate of the Faculty of Physics at the University of Warsaw (UW) in the field of Nanostructural Engineering. He has several years of experience in running a limited liability company and completed the Harvard Business School Online “Management Essentials” course financed from the ministerial program “Best of the Best 4.0”.

His most important achievements include coordinating a team of more than 40 people responsible for the 3D visor printing action for healthcare during the first wave of COVID-19 in Poland. As a result of this initiative, 15,000 visors were handed over free of charge by the Faculty of Physics of the University of Warsaw to over 200 medical facilities all over Poland.

Currently, he is an employee of the National Laboratory for Photonics and Quantum Technologies (NLPQT), and previously he was a contractor in the NCBiR grant “Narrowband photonic nanostructures for selective, early cancer diagnostics”. (EXODIAGNOS). He presented the results of his own research at prestigious international scientific conferences, where he gave 5 presentations and presented 2 posters. He also received a bronze medal in the general classification of the international Olympics The University Physics Competition 2019.

Since 2017, he has been a member of the board of the “Nanorurki” Scientific Club, where he deals with the finance section. He is also an active member of The Student Association of Optics and Photonic of the University of Warsaw (KNOF-UW). He was the organiser of the OSA Siegman International Summer School on Lasers 2020, International Physicists’ Tournament 2020, three editions of the Young Scientists’ Symposium, several smaller scientific events and six international non-scientific events for several thousand participants each (Shanghai, Tokyo, Budapest, Prague, Krakow, Warsaw).

In the current academic year he will be defending his Master’s thesis on the manufacture and electrodynamic simulations of silver plasmonic bio-sensors in nanodisk geometry and nanohelis. In October 2021 he started PhD studies at the University of Warsaw, during which he will work on the physics of high fields in the context of the interaction of femtosecond laser pulses with matter.
